You can bring in certain items free of customs and stamp duty. Included are clothing, toiletries, and other personal items; 1 quart of alcoholic beverages; 1 quart of wine; 1 pound in tobacco, or 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars; or any other item up to $100.00 value.
Each person may take home duty free purchases up to $800.00 US dollars. Liquor and tobacco are limited to those over 18. NO CUBAN CIGARS ALLOWED. A family may pool exemptions, i.e. a family of four may bring home $3,200.00 worth of goods.

Bahamian paper money comes in half-dollar, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100. There is also a 15 cent coin. Beautiful bills that if you collect, would be wonderful addition to your collection.
The Bahamian dollar is on par with the US dollar; you can expect a small commission when exchanging traveller's cheques for local currenty and again when converting local currency to US dollars.
Taxi fares are set by government. All taxis are required to have meters in good working condition.
Remember, British customs apply for driving, so steering wheel on left and you drive on the left. Seat belt use is also mandatory. Speed limit signs are posted.
